Trash!   :whip:

AKA: Placeholder for things I send to Kraken's Belly for deletion, i.e. Ocean-wide Events.  I hate that I can't delete that June one and leave the others in here (I leave them for a month generally) because it's dated earlier.  Seriously.  Bothers me.  So this thread will have stuff dumped into it...later.

3 Million PoE Rumble Research Event

What: Sometimes when a sprinkle attack is sent, it uses the multi-row part of the sprinkle pattern, and sometimes it just repeats the single-row part of the sprinkle pattern.  Correctly explain the exact details of how the multi-row sprinkle pattern works. For example, what are the exact conditions for the game to use the multi-row sprinkle pattern, and how does the game determine how much of the multi-row sprinkle pattern is used?

How to Enter: Reply to the thread above with your theory.  First one to explain the multi-row sprinkle (in sufficient detail) wins.

Deadline: Ongoing until Boothook is satisfied

Prize: 3,000,000 pieces of eight; check thread for distribution

Addition to the first post:  Announcement of an event here does not indicate any sort of flag-level political endorsement of the event's sponsors.  We just want to make sure ye know what's going on around the ocean.

Midnight Marauders's Quizzade of Doom!!
This is a team entry event.  Teams should consist of 7 people to best compete.

What, Part one: An Event Blockade at Oyster Island
Sloop teams made up of one person from the event staff and up to 6 participants will enter the board in one minute intervals (continue through the safe zone) assigned by a random number generator.  Ships may only leave the board to substitue a participant.  Ships may do whatever they like on the board, aiming simply to survive.
The event staff member must be crewed as an officer into the team's crew.  They will not puzzle.

What, Part two: The quiz
One member of the team will be the "quiz entrant."  This person is not on the sloop but instead will board an event ship at Oyster to answer questions of a general piratey (including YPP) theme.  Each round, each person will be asked a multiple choice question and have 10 seconds in which to respond.  If the question is answered incorrectly, a team member is planked from their ship.  Plankings occur for all teams at approximately the same time, at the end of each round of questions.
The event organizers note that if multiple-choice is too easy, the questions will change to be open-answer.

Risk: This is a sinking blockade board.  Ship's risk is the responsibility of the deed-holder.  (Do not use someone else's ship without their permission!!!)

Prizes:
1st place: 140k and 7 1st place medals
2nd Place: 70k and 7 2nd place medals
Last place: 7 Medals inscribed "Quizcade of Doom Wooden Spoon!"

When:
Participants must register by noon PDT on the 20th of June 2008.
Event will run at noon PDT on Saturday, 21 June 2008.

Complete rules can be found in the post linked above.

Minor Game Design Challenge Menage a Trois

What: "A competition as to who can remember the smallest new thing put into the game in the last year that made the biggest difference to good fun!
The new thing must have been EXTREMELY MINOR but GOOD, and actually implemented in game. It can be a bugfix, a new feature, or anything small added to the game - but no major recoding, no new puzzles, no scheduled changes that haven't been implemented by the time the contest closes."
Multiple entries are okay.
Feature must have been implemented between July 1, 2007 and August 15, 2008.

Deadline: Post to the thread linked above by 11:59 pm piratey time on August 15th.  Include your pirate name and ocean.  Do not edit your posts!

Judging:  "the judges are asked to assign five points for how great of an impact the change had on gameplay, and five points for just how minor the change is. What we're looking for here is the intersection between the littlest thing that made the biggest difference to our piratey world."

Prizes:
First place: 10,000 subscription poe or 15 doubloons
Second place: 5,000 subscription poe or 5 doubloons
Third place: 2,000 subscription PoE or 2 doubloons

Leg Up Relay Sloop Race

What: A sloop relay race in Jet!

When: July 26-27th (As judged by pirate time.)

Prizes:  (Colors up to winning pirates!)
1st: 4 Renamed/Painted/Stocked Baghlahs
2nd: 4 Renamed/Painted/Stocked Longships (any colors other than full black and full gold)
3rd: 4 Painted/Stocked Cutters (any colors other than black and gold)
4th: 4 Painted/Stocked Sloops (any colors other than black and gold)
5th-6th: TBD depending on participation

Quote from: Cronus
General
  • Pre-race: Position one stocked ship at each of the islands listed for your ocean's course. Make sure all ships are in the same crew. The first ship will also need some fruit to serve as the baton.
  • Starter leg - To start, buy a bid ticket. Set sail! When you reach the end of your leg, buy another bid ticket and then transfer some fruit to the next ship.
  • Two middle legs - Receive the fruit from your teammate and then buy a bid ticket. Set sail! When you reach the end of your leg, buy another bid ticket and then transfer some fruit to the next ship.
  • Final leg - Receive the fruit from your teammate and then buy a bid ticket. Set sail! When you reach the end of your leg, buy another bid ticket. Then go grab a child cookie to eat for a job well done.
  • Islands must be visited in order: Hephaestus' Forge -> Chaparral Island -> Lagniappe -> Xi Island -> Hephaestus' Forge
  • Once done the team leader will post results to the wiki. (linked from the original event post)
  • You can use as many or as few people to form your team as you want. One team leader will report results. (linked from the original event post)
  • When transferring fruit, please do more than one unit. You don't want to end up losing that and not have a baton to pass.
  • Please try to do something to your records to separate your entries from pillaging or other entries. That can mean putting 1 PoE in and taking it out a few times. While you won't be DQed if you don't do this, it does make my life easier.
Race Rules:
  • Each ocean and time will have a start point, end point and midpoint(s) where you must buy bid tickets.
  • Pirates may enter as many times and on as many different teams as you would like.
  • Contestants may not start before July 26th 0000 Game Time (PDT) and results must be submitted by July 27th 2400 Game Time (PDT).
  • Only the CO in charge of the ship should access the hold or the coffers. Each of the four ships in a relay team should have a different CO. You'll also need to pick one person from your team to be the team leader and to report scores via the wiki .
  • Entrants are required to buy a bid ticket at each stopping point before they pass the baton. Vessel records will be used to determine that each ship ported at the island they needed to and then passed the baton onto the next ship.
  • Swabbie transport is not an acceptable means of transport, nor is greeter pillaging. You must have something on board at the end which was purchased sometime before the race started.
  • The baton is any type of fruit you wish to use. The contestants are responsible for bringing their own fruit to pass. You may use multiple units to make sure you still have some in the event you lose a battle.
  • You can make up your team with whomever you want as long as all ships sail within one crew. You can even sail with the same set of people on each ship, however you still must transfer the baton and move ships at each stop and a different pirate must purchase the bid tickets on each ship. This should allow people plenty of flexibility when creating a team.
  • PvP is allowed. Please keep it reasonable as one engagement has probably already ruined their time anyway.
  • When possible, please use custom named ships to make it easier to check ship times after the race.
  • There will not be an events organizer online at the time of the race. It is up to you to start on time and manage your ship, supplies, charts and anything else you might need.
  • Please do not ask the on-duty OMs for help. All questions and potential problems should be brought up in the event thread before the races start.
  • Results will be posted by the entrant in the wiki . However all results are unofficial and pending verification from me. The final results will be posted as soon as possible.
  • Ties will be awarded duplicate prizes (e.g. if two teams have the same time in second place, both teams will receive the second place prize, and the next team down will receive the fourth place prize). If too many teams tie for a single place, I may drop the prizes down a level.
  • Please double check the event thread right before the race to see if there have been any last minute updates. Any changes will be announced an hour or more before the race starts in this thread (check the "Edit" section at the bottom).

    Times
  • Time starts when the entrants buy a bid ticket at the first island.
  • Time ends when the last ship gets to port and buys a bid ticket at the last island (which is also the start island, for ease of rerunning the race).
  • Times are calculated in minutes, we have no way of calculating the seconds. Use /info to see the current game time, I suggest you try starting at the very beginning of the minute.

Note that the renames are chosen by Cronus.    Still great prizes, but important to note that they aren't 'free rename of your choice'.

For anyone participating in the Leg Up Relay Race:

Contestants must post their information to Cronus' wiki userpage upon completing the race. If any of you have trouble doing this, or are just unsure about how to do it, feel free to PM me here or on the main forums as Fannon, and I can post your results for you. :) I don't want you to feel discouraged from entering simply because the "reporting" part of it freaks you out.

Just thought I'd pass the word on for those that like to take a chance with raffles.

I don't know all the details so if you're interested, you're better off shooting a tell to Bootymoe and finding out more.

There's a brown-bannered war brig, a cat or dog, and 10k poe are the three prizes being raffled off.   Tickets are 1k each, and there's no limit to how many tickets you can purchase.

Just remember, it's a raffle, so not all tickets will be winners.

The drawing for winning tickets will be held on August 10th.

Hat Off!

What: Use arts and crafts to design a pirate hat.  Like, summer camp arts and crafts.  It must be wearable.

When: Deadline is midnight, August 23rd

How:  Entries will be four photos: The raw materials of the hat; in-progress picture; finished picture; picture of the finished hat being worn.  Include pirate name and ocean in each.  Post entires in the entry thread, linked from the event thread.  Enter as many times as ye like.

Prizes:
- Magenta/lime parrot feather - for hat accessorizing!
- Magenta/orange parrot feather
- Magenta mirror trinket - to check out how good you look.
- Light green mirror trinket
- Magenta comb trinket - for fixing hat hair.
- Light green comb trinket
- War Brig - Crafty Hatahata!
- Hat-making furniture set (fabric, spools, mannequin)

Judging: "Judging will be done based on appearance, creativity, and how well the hat fits the arts-and-crafts pirate theme. Wearability will also be considered - something that I can run around in will be ranked higher than something nearly identical that you can't tilt your head in."
